and you hang at the edge of a cliff
do not give way to anger

Will you become the world's sorry child who strikes his family
a lonely friend, scorned, who loses his neighbors
a lifelong sinner who killed another by mistake

O heart knotted with grief, tears turned away
O heavy body, suddenly abandoned and alone

Turn your anger back
just this once

Eyes that set the soul on fire
a face that draws up laughter and weeping together
a fist that clutches an armful of wondrous gifts
a spirit seething, spilling over in the chest

Even an erupted volcano, once it has breathed out its fire and smoke,
comes to a time of cooling

O gifted one
