Raindrops scatter on the ground
and soak into the dry earth

crushed under the tires of speeding trucks
lying on concrete roads
clinging now and then to the soles of high heels
they make their way to the roots of trees and grass

when insects have nibbled the leaves
and the bright, twinkling stars fall asleep
they come back to life as clear drops of dew

rising with the byeotnwi of the dawn sun
they bloom as white cloud-flowers high in the sky
